1000 TREES

The Stream Team has branched out and started a new initiative called “1000 TREES.” The goal is to plant 1000 trees (or more) throughout the Palisades School District. The “Tree Squad” has already started this initiative by distributing small potted trees to participants in the June 9th stream clean-up.

Young, healthy trees take large amounts of carbon dioxide (CO2) out of the air and convert into wood and leaves. This is call “sequestering.” CO2 is a greenhouse gas and is believed to be responsible for global climate change. By helping to plant as many trees as possible the Tree Squad is hoping to get the Palisades community doing what it can to help the planet and reduce CO2 in the atmosphere.

This is a long term and open-ended initiative and all students, families and residents are encouraged to participate. The Tree Squad will be creating a map for Google Earth and linking this map to the Gallows Run Watershed website. As trees are planted throughout the area the locations of the plantings will be plotted everyone will be able to see the progress we are making.
