The Tree Squad is leading a community-based initiative called “1000 TREES.” The goal is to plant 1000 new trees (or more) throughout the Palisades School District. Young, healthy trees take large amounts of carbon dioxide (CO2) out of the air and convert it into wood. This is call “sequestering.” CO2 is a greenhouse gas and is believed to be responsible for global climate change. By helping to plant as many trees as possible the Tree Squad is hoping to get the Palisades community doing what it can to reduce CO2 in the atmosphere.

As the trees are planted throughout the District, the locations are plotted on Google Map, so everyone can see the progress the Palisades Community is making.

Seedlings germinated and raised by the Tree Squad (oaks and hickories) are provided free of charge at community events and to anyone in the district who would be willing to plant and care for a tree seedling. Click on the PLAY BUTTON for a short video on how to plant a seedling.

This is a long term and open-ended initiative and all students, families and residents are encouraged to participate. If you would like to participate and receive small, potted trees to plant and nurture on your property send an e-mail with your name and contact information to the Tree Squad at The.Tree.Squad@gmail.com.

The GRWA website is in the process of being updated and improved by the Tree Squad and GRWA vollunteers. We look forward to providing the community with more information and features in the coming months.
